EasyJet is Going On a Hiring Spree for Cabin Crew in Preparation for 2022

More than 11,000 people have already applied for 1,100 cabin crew positions that low-cost airline easyJet needs to fill in preparation for what is expected to be an exceptionally busy summer holiday travel season in 2022.

The Luton-based airline says it will need additional cabin crew for temporary seasonal contracts between March and October 2022.

EasyJet is likely to experience a significant lull in demand over the traditionally quieter winter months. This year, however, will be harder than normal because Europe is witnessing a resurgence in COVID-19 infections which is leading to renewed lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Travel demand is predicted to bounce back in Spring 2022 with foreign travel open to fully vaccinated holidaymakers.

“With the recovery underway, we are ready and able to seize opportunities and our seasonal crew are integral to this,” commented easyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren on Tuesday.

Lundgren said he was “delighted” with the response to the recruitment campaign so far. Hiring events will continue over the next few months, with successful candidates expected to start their training early next year.

“We look forward to bringing these crew onboard with us for summer, so we can offer the greatest choice and best value across our unrivalled European network, for leisure and business customers alike,” Lundgren continued.

Lundgren also said that easyJet was now ready to restart its popular cadet pilot programme with as many as 150 cadets set to start their training between January and April 2022. The first batch was meant to join the airline before the pandemic struck but have only now been invited back as the recovery ramps up.
