Is British Airways Hiring Cabin Crew Right Now?

British Airways is one of the most popular airlines for aspiring cabin crew in the UK, and can receive upwards of 31,000 applications every time it opens a recruitment round. Unfortunately, the carrier normally has only 2,000 places to fill per year, so, as you can see, the competition can be pretty tough.

Given that British Airways doesn’t keep recruitment open year-round and the sporadic way in which the carrier does open hiring windows, knowing when recruitment is going to take place could help you get your CV in front of a recruiter at just the right moment.

This page covers recruitment for all British Airways cabin crew positions in the UK: Heathrow, Gatwick long-haul, Euroflyer at Gatwick, and CityFlyer at London City Airport.

Where Things Stand Right Now

Active recruitment is closed, and British Airways has given no date for when it will reopen. We don’t expect that to happen until 2027, for three reasons:

  • The holding pool is not empty yet. New-hire cabin crew who already have an offer are still being called forward for initial training. Some of them had been due to start in July 2026 and were told their start date could not go ahead.
  • The long-haul schedule has been cut back. The developing security situation in the Middle East has led British Airways to reduce its long-haul flying, and less flying means fewer crew are needed.
  • Aircraft availability is still a problem. The airline cannot add flights, or the crew to work them, because it is still battling aircraft availability issues, including delays in receiving new aircraft and engine issues with some Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes.

What is the Talent Pool?

While British Airways isn’t actively hiring cabin crew, it’s preparing for its next recruitment round by offering candidates the option to register in a Talent Pool for future hiring. The Talent Pool allows you to go through the initial recruitment process by ensuring you meet the minimum requirements and then submitting your application and CV.

When recruitment does reopen, people registered in the Talent Pool will be the first to be called forward to take part in an Assessment Day. The Talent Pool covers all of BA’s different cabin crew communities (Heathrow, Gatwick, EuroFlyer, and CityFlyer). You don’t select which community you’d like to join. If recruitment opens for any of these bases, you’ll be asked whether you want to be considered for the role.

  • The long-haul flying schedule has been reduced because of the situation in the Gulf.
  • Aircraft availability continues to hold back the schedule.

Pointing towards hiring

  • The Talent Pool closing date keeps being extended instead of the listing being withdrawn.
  • British Airways says it is on track to meet its cabin crew recruitment target for the year.
  • New long-haul routes are due to join the network in 2027, and the airline has 62 new widebody aircraft on order for delivery by the mid-2030s. More flying needs more crew.
