If you’ve been eyeing Qatar Airways as your ideal airline to become a member of cabin crew, we have bad news, as it appears that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has had a real impact on the Doha-based carrier’s recruitment plans.
Qatar Airways has no cabin crew recruitment events on the calendar right now, and there isn’t even a way to register interest on the airline’s official careers site. For an airline that usually has a steady drumbeat of Open Days running somewhere in the world, this is a big development.
The open-ended pause on cabin crew recruitment comes amidst a flare-up in the wider Middle East conflict. Following a much-welcome ceasefire a few months ago, Gulf carriers like Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways used the opportunity to quickly rebuild their networks.
Renewed tension between Iran and the United States hasn’t led to a retreat by these mega airlines, with Qatar Airways pretty much operating the same number of flights now as it did before the start of the Iran War in late February.
That being said, it’s totally understandable that Qatar Airways isn’t necessarily looking to expand at the moment and is carefully reviewing its requirements for new hire cabin crew over the coming months, and, potentially, even longer.
What’s Actually Happening With Qatar Airways’ Schedule
Qatar Airways has resumed flights to the large majority of its network. As of mid-July, Gulf carriers as a whole had recovered to around 75% to 96% recovered of their pre-war schedules. After initially being very cautious about resuming flights, Qatar Airways has quickly rebuilt its schedule, alongside Emirates and Etihad Airways.
Meanwhile, flydubai lags behind the so-called ME3 (Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways), recovering just 65% of its pre-war schedule.
Insight: It’s worth being clear that “recovering” and “back to normal” are not the same thing. An airline can be flying to most of its destinations and still be operating cautiously enough behind the scenes that hiring gets put on hold. Recruitment and network recovery don’t move at the same speed.
Not Every Gulf Carrier Is Pausing
This is the part of the story that makes it more than just bad news. Emirates and Etihad Airways are both still actively recruiting cabin crew through this same period of regional disruption, with Open Days running in multiple countries.
Whatever is behind Qatar Airways’ quiet patch, it isn’t a blanket freeze across the Gulf. Interestingly, Etihad Airways has made no secret of the fact that it’s aiming for a big expansion, while Qatar Airways is likely being far more cautious, as it constantly reviews the progress of negotiations that will ultimately bring long-term peace to the region.

If Qatar Airways was on your list, the honest answer is that there is nothing to apply for right now, and no way to register interest for when there is. That’s a frustrating position to be in, particularly if you’d been timing your application around a specific Open Day or life event.
The more useful way to spend this gap is preparation rather than waiting. Recruitment freezes at major airlines have historically ended with a reasonably fast return to hiring once the underlying picture stabilises, and when Qatar Airways does reopen applications, it tends to move quickly from CV submission to Open Day invitation for candidates who are ready.
