Some fantastic news at last – flydubai has reopened Cabin Crew recruitment with applications now being accepted on the airline’s official careers website. The online portal was opened on 05th June and quite frankly, considering what’s going on at fellow UAE airlines, Emirates and Etihad, this has come as a really welcome surprise to us.
Last December, flydubai reached a milestone with 1,650 Cabin Crew working for the airline and recruitment still active. Unfortunately, soon after, the airline stopped accepting applications and all the news coming from flydubai suggested it could be some time before they were in a position to start hiring again.
In 2016, flydubai made a modest profit of just AED 31.6 million (USD $8.6 million) and commenting on the results, Ghaith Al Ghaith, the airline’s CEO said: “we will remain prudent throughout 2017 as we will continue to operate in a challenging socio-economic environment. Yields will remain under pressure and we expect to report flat growth in the year ahead.”
But it now looks like flydubai is performing better than expected and this opens up an amazing opportunity to join their team.
Minimum Requirements
So what’s Dubai’s very own budget airline looking for in its new Cabin Crew? You’ll need to be at least 21 years of age, fluent in both written and verbal English and at least 158cm tall. Here are a few of the other requirements:
- Minimum Education: High School diploma
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a customer service or sales role
- Tattoo’s: No visible tattoos or body piercings (see this article for more details)
- Passport: A valid passport that allows you to travel to all the countries in the flydubai route network.
On this occasion, flydubai has said that previous aviation experience, such as working as Cabin Crew for another airline, is a definite advantage – but it’s not essential. However, the airline is looking for candidates who are “motivated, reliable, hardworking” and “passionate, friendly & fun”.
You’ll also need to demonstrate what a good team player you are and your ability to communicate with a cosmopolitan and multi-national mix of passengers.
The Application Process
Applications can only be made on flydubai’s careers website which can be found here. The airline uses the Taleo application system to pre-screen applications so be sure to create a customised CV that addresses all the criteria that flydubai is looking for in its Cabin Crew.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll be invited to take part in a short ‘on demand’ video interview. If you successfully pass this round, you’ll get an invite to attend an Assessment Day. But be warned: the last application process was very slow and there’s no reason to believe that anything has changed.
About flydubai
The Dubai-based airline was only founded in 2008 but has already built up a route network of 93 destinations in 44 countries. It has a fleet of 58 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and is due to take delivery of the new 737MAX 8 jet later this year.
Although a budget airline, flydubai has its own Business Class and even offers free meals and seatback entertainment in its Economy Cabin. The new aircraft due for delivery will feature an upgraded cabin and a new Business Class seat.
At present, flydubai flies from both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) to the north of the city. However, the airline plans to move all operations to DWC in the coming months.
Life at flydubai
Life at flydubai is a lot different to working for big sister, Emirates or Etihad. Cabin Crew earn a smaller salary and are expected to find their own accommodation and transport to and from the airport. The airline’s route network also means there are more ‘there and backs’ rather than overnight stays.
That being said, flydubai is aggressively expanding so the opportunities for career progression are huge. The airline is also said to be much more relaxed than Emirates with a more laid back atmosphere and energetic ethos.
