Hawaiian Airlines is preparing to hold a flight attendant recruitment event in Honolulu, and it is currently accepting applications from would-be crew members on its official recruitment website.
The recruitment event is the first since Alaska Airlines closed its merger with Hawaiian last month, although the two carriers are to continue operating as separate brands, and Hawaiian is expected to expand its presence in its Honolulu hub.
Hawaiian Airlines is accepting applications from anyone who already had the right to live and work in the United States, but if you do get invited to the face to face event in Hawaii, you’ll be expected to foot the transportation bill.
In fact, if you get accepted, be warned that Hawaiian Airlines doesn’t currently pay trainee flight attendants during the eight-week training course, and accommodation is not provided.
In other words, this recruitment event is geared towards Hawaii residents or those with big pockets who can sustain eight weeks without any financial support.
Hawaiian Airlines is the latest major US carrier to hire flight attendants in recent months, following the likes of American Airlines, Delta, and United Airlines. Following those recruitment campaigns, it’s not expected that any further hiring for the Big Three US airlines will resume for some time, although United did briefly reopen recruitment last week (for just seven hours!).
Minimum requirements for the job include:
- Right to live and work in the United States
- At least 21 years old
- High school diploma, or GED equivalent
- No visible tattoos in uniform or facial piercings
- Ability to reach 82 inches vertically
- Ability to sit in cabin crew jumpseat with harness fastened
- Pre-employment checks include a drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and criminal background check.
