We weren’t expecting to see this… United Airlines has reopened flight attendant recruitment for the second time in less than three months, but if the last application window is anything to go by, you’ll have to act really fast if you want to stand a chance.
United Airlines last opened flight attendant recruitment in late August, and on that occasion, the application window to submit your resume via the airline’s official recruitment website was open for less than 24 hours.
Essentially, if you didn’t know anyone at United who could tip you off that flight attendant recruitment was just about to open, there was very little time to prepare and actually submit your resume.
Unfortunately, we don’t know how long the application window is going to last on this occasion, but given the fact that it follows recruitment campaigns from both American Airlines and Delta, we’d like to think that a lot more people are going to be prepared and have their resumes ready to submit.
The lucky candidates who make it through a multi-stage hiring process will end up at United’s dedicated flight attendant training center in Houston where they’ll have to complete a six and a half week training course.
Flight attendant training at United certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted. In addition to numerous exams and practical tests in fire fighting, evacuation, and various medical scenarios, trainees will have to survive without a full salary.
The airline does, at least, provide accommodation for trainees, along with breakfast and lunch, and a $140 weekly per diem to cover other meals and expenses.
At the completion of training, flight attendants will be sent to one of United’s seven hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles.
“With the unique ability to see the world while working, it’s no surprise that flight attendant jobs are highly desired,” the airline says of its latest recruitment campaign. “We do not require special schooling or a college degree for this job and you will be fully trained by United.”
The airline did not, however, comment on how long candidates would have to submit their application, so act fast!
