Emirates has reached a major milestone in a massive worldwide recruitment campaign for new cabin crew – the Dubai-based carrier recently surpassed 20,000 cabin crew, and that number is still increasing with scouts on the lookout in cities around the world looking for potential cabin crew recruits.
Since 2022, when Emirates kicked off its latest recruitment campaign, the airline says it has hosted more than 340 recruitment events across all six permanently inhabited continents. But rather than showing any signs of slowing down, there are many more recruitment events planned in the months ahead.
Emirates says becoming a member of cabin crew is more than just a job and could be a long-term career. The airline’s longest flight attendant has been flying for Emirates for more than 35 years – when the carrier was just two years old. The longest-serving female crew member joined Emirates all the way back in 1994.
The standard contract length for a new member of cabin crew is three years, but there are at least 4,000 serving crew members who have been with Emirates for between 5 – 9 years and another 3,000 crew members have been working for Emirates for up to 14 years.
In terms of career progression, new recruits start off working in the Economy cabin before upgrading to the Business Class cabin. A select number of cabin crew can apply to be trained to work in Emirates’ exclusive First Class cabin.
There are also opportunities to become a cabin supervisor or a trainer. A big goal for a lot of cabin crew is to become the cabin chief or purser. Today, Emirates has more than 1,100 pursers as it continues to grow its fleet and route network.
