Australian flag carrier Qantas has just reopened cabin crew recruitment at its London base following a more than two-year pandemic induced break. Qantas only restarted international flights last month but is hoping to ramp up its long-haul schedule as 2022 progresses.
Qantas’ London-based cabin crew work some of the airline’s longest flights, including a direct service from London to Australia. At the moment, the service is running to Darwin in the Northern Territory but will eventually move back to Perth, Western Australia once border restrictions are eased.
In the past, London-based crew were trained to work on Qantas’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A380’s superjumbos. Flight attendants based in the UK will also operate flights to and from Singapore once those services restart.
Describing the position as a “high responsibility” role, Qantas says prospective cabin crew must meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18-years old
- Height between 163cm-183cm
- Current First Aid ceritificate
- In good health and able to swim 50 metres fully clothed and unaided
- The legal right to live and work in the UK
Qantas is ideally looking for people with previous experience in the airline industry or those currently working in a customer-facing service role.
In addition, candidates will need to prove they possess a number of sought after skills which include:
- Commitment and confidence in delivering exceptional customer service
- Flexible and dependable
- Friendly, caring and empathetic
- An aptitude for technology
Obviously, a lot has changed since Qantas last hired London-based crew and the pandemic has seen massive changes to the industry. Qantas has taken the decision to mandate COVID-19 vaccination for passengers and intends to do the same for international flight attendants.
At the moment, the airline is still exploring how it can do that from a legal standpoint but this is something that candidates should be aware of.
In order to apply for this position, you must submit your application via the official Qantas recruitment website. The full job ad can be found here.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in an Assessment Day which will be held in London.
