It’s been nearly 18-months since Etihad Airways restarted the process of hiring cabin crew but up until recently, you had to submit an application online to even be considered for the job. While that’s not unusual or an unreasonable requirement for Etihad to impose, it’s a system that doesn’t suit everyone – especially, if your CV is automatically rejected by the dreaded ‘applicant tracking system‘.
Unlike, Emirates that routinely holds Open Day’s in cities around the world, Etihad prefers invitation-only Assessment Day’s where only select candidates are given the details of where and when the recruitment event will take place. As we’ve found out first hand, being invited to an Assessment Day definitely doesn’t make the recruitment process any easier but it is at least a little quicker.
But while the majority of Etihad’s cabin crew recruitment events are still only for invited candidates, the airline has started to experiment with a small number of Open Day events in select locations around the world.
Unlike, Emirates where an Open Day and Assessment Day can often be concluded in a single day, Etihad has, however, made it clear that the Open Day is a CV drop only and shortlisted candidates will be invited back to attend the follow-up Assessment Day the following morning.
So far, there are only a few Open Day’s scheduled with only having just concluded in Cairo and others booked in for Brisbane and Perth in early March. Unfortunately, we don’t know the criteria for why a certain city gets an Open Day, although don’t be surprised if more Open Day’s are announced in the near future.
And while you’re welcome to attend an Open Day, you can also still apply for the Assessment Day in the usual way via Etihad’s official recruitment website. Remember also that Etihad doesn’t work with any third-party recruitment company.
At most Assessment Day’s, Etihad invites up to 120 of the “strongest candidates with remarkable hospitality skills”.
If you want to apply for this role, you’ll need to meet some of these minimum requirements:
- At least 21-years old
- Able to reach 210cm without shoes (but on tiptoes if necessary)
- Physically fit and able
- Confident swimmer
- Minimum education up to High School level
- Fluent in both spoken and written English
You’ll also need to prove you have an ability to work well in a cosmopolitan, international team of colleagues, taking personal responsibility to provide an excellent service for Etihad’s passengers.
Candidates must have a clean criminal record and have access to a passport with the unrestricted right to travel. Tattoo’s and body piercings must be completely covered and not visible when wearing the Etihad Airways cabin crew uniform.
