Over the last 12-months, Emirates has held several hundred cabin crew recruitment events in cities around the world. But the Dubai-based airline is quite possibly unique in that it very rarely holds any Open Day’s or Assessment Day’s in it’s home town. Part of the reason, of course, is the fact that Emirates prides itself on hiring a truly diverse and multicultural community of cabin crew.
At last count, Emirates cabin crew represented an incredible 160 nationalities – it’s something the airline is quite rightly proud of and at the beginning of every flight the purser will announce the number of nations the cabin crew come from and what languages they speak. As a point of reference, on average Emirates cabin crew represent up to 15 nationalities on every flight.
Finding the right multi-cultural talent means sending recruiters around the world on the hunt of prospective cabin crew but that’s not to say there’s not just as much talent a lot closer to home. Dubai is a cosmopolitan melting pot of nationalities and there is no doubt a lot of aspiring Emirates cabin crew already living in Dubai.
In fact, when Emirates reopened cabin crew recruitment in March 2018, the airline did experiment with holding several Open Day’s at its Head Office near Dubai International Airport. At one event, thousands of candidates descended on the airline’s HQ, with a line of hopefuls snaking around the building and the throng of people bringing usual business to a standstill.
The numbers clearly took the recruitment team by surprise and many people had to be turned away – there simply wasn’t enough time to speak to every single candidate that turned up. The recruiters clearly had to rethink their strategy and within days other Open Day’s scheduled to take place in Dubai were cancelled.
While Open Day’s continued in other popular destinations, candidates who lived in Dubai soon realised they would have to get on a plane and fly to another city if they had any hope of submitting their CV in person.
Thankfully, Emirates has decided to hold more recruitment events in Dubai but this time no Open Day’s are planned. Instead, Emirates is currently inviting online applications for an Assessment Day set to take place in the city in the near future (an exact date hasn’t yet been set).
The application process hasn’t changed and it has to be submitted via the official Emirates Group recruitment website. Expect the competition for this event to be really intense and recruiters will no doubt be incredibly ruthless in their pre-screening process.
