One of the toughest airlines in the industry to land a job as a flight attendant has just reopened applications with plans to hire around 1,000 lucky candidates. Delta Air Lines famously hired less than 1 per cent of the 270,000 candidates it received flight attendant applications from in 2017 – this year is expected to be no different and the competition is likely to be incredibly intense.
So if you are going to submit an application, here’s what Delta say’s will make it stand out from the crowd:
- Evidence of at least one year’s experience in a “personalized” customer service role or patient care
- Experience in a role ensuring the safety or care of others
- Completion of a degree beyond high school or GED
In the past, Delta has also been interested in hearing from candidates with previous airline experience and those who have had specialist safety training. This year, the Atlanta-based airline is particularly interested in certain “language of destination” speakers, in particular: Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, Greek, German, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
Those candidates lucky enough to make it through the hiring process will be expected to complete a six week, six-day a week training course at Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta. Recruitment will take place over the next few months, with training courses beginning in early 2020.
The application process starts off with a short screening exercise via Delta’s official recruitment website. Interested candidates can view the full list of minimum criteria and eligibility rules, as well as view videos that give an idea of what it’s like to work as a Delta flight attendant.
If you pass this initial screening exercise will then be invited to submit a pre-recorded video interview. That might sound daunting but Delta has added the option to re-record your answer to make the whole experience a little less nervewracking and allow you to show your very best.
Then comes the dreaded Assessment Day and a face-to-face interview, which Delta plans to hold in a number of key cities across the United States. Positions will also be available at bases across the country, although exact requirements haven’t yet been released.
More information and the opportunity to apply can be found on the Delta recruitment website.
