Next year, Virgin Atlantic will launch its first-ever route to South America with a daily service to the Brazilian economic powerhouse of São Paulo and in preparation, the airline is now recruiting Portuguese speaking cabin crew. The daily service will be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner configured with 31 upper class, 35 premium and 192 economy seas, and is set to begin operations at some point in the first quarter.
Virgin Atlantic’s foray into the South American market was announced earlier this year where executives said they were hoping to tap into Brazil’s fast-growing economy with key corporate customers, a healthy cargo demand and a full suite of products from the profit-making side of the business Virgin Holidays.
“São Paulo represents an incredible opportunity for our business, and we’re very excited to be flying to a brand new continent for the first time,” explained Juha Jarvinen, Virgin’s executive vice president of Commercial.
“There are a significant number of corporate customers, and multi-national businesses, located in this Powerhouse of South America who can now enjoy the Virgin Atlantic experience on this busy international route.”
Virgin will be going into direct competition with both British Airways and LATAM who both operate daily flights between the two cities.
Cabin crew recruited for this opportunity will mainly work on the 11 hour 55 minute flight between London Heathrow and São Paulo where they’ll help break down cultural and language barriers that can sometimes exist. However, as this position is based in London, language speakers may also find themselves operating on any of Virgin Atlantic’s route network.
Applications need to be submitted by 26th August. Further information can be found here.
Virgin Atlantic recently closed an opportunity for standard cabin crew and it’s expected that successful candidates will be placed on training courses beginning the end of this year and into early 2020. The airline is unlikely to reopen the application window until everyone on the waitlist has completed training.
