Only months after Cathay Pacific announced it would be closing an international cabin crew base in Toronto, the Hong Kong-based airline has decided to expand its London outpost with applications now open until 31st May 2019. Along with already holding the right to live and work in the United Kingdom, candidates will also need to be fluent in both English and one of the following languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Tagalog or Korean.
Candidates will also need to meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18-years old
- Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent, with a minimum ‘C’ grade in English
- Minimum arm-reach of 208cm
- Physically fit and healthy
- Able to successfully complete a Police Act Disclosure Application
Cathay is also looking for candidates who possess what it calls “polished interpersonal skills with a positive customer-oriented attitude.” Ideally, you will have previous experience in the service industry. Fluency in a third language is also desirable although not essential.

Hong Kong Opportunities
Cathay Pacific is also planning on hiring around 1,000 new flight attendants at its Hong Kong hub throughout 2019 for both its mainline brand and the regional Cathay Dragon brand. The airline is currently accepting applications for both experienced an inexperienced cabin crew with an open-ended application deadline.
Along with already holding permanent Hong Kong resident status, candidates will also need to meet the following minimum requirements:
- At least 18-years old
- Minimum pass rate in 5 HKCEE/HKDSE subjects (including English)
- A minimum arm-reach of 208cm on tiptoes
- Physically fit and healthy
- Fluent in English as well as one of the following languages: Bahasa Malaysia, Cantonese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japenese, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, or Thai.
For Cathay Dragon, recruiters are specifically looking for recruits who can speak Cantonese, Japenese or Korean.
Candidates with at least one year of prior experience as a flight attendant will go through a faster recruitment process, with all assessments completed within one day.
Cathay says it can offer candidates a selection of roster schemes to suit different needs, as well as allowances for flying and ad diem payments, comprehensive insurance and medical coverage and concessional travel benefits.
