In the last few days, Virgin Australia has opened up ‘expression of interest’ applications for new cabin crew to join the airline. Candidates will have until the 4th March to submit their application via the official Virgin Australia recruitment website. There are currently opportunities available for domestic and international short haul cabin crew in both Australia and New Zealand, as well as regional cabin crew based in Australia only.
Domestic and international short haul positions are available in the following cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, along with Auckland and Christchurch for the airline’s Kiwi subsidiary. Further opportunities for regional cabin crew who operate smaller twin-engine turboprop and turbofan aircraft like the ATR 72 and Fokker 100 respectively, are available in Perth and Canberra.
Virgin Australia’s recruitment team caution that you should only apply for one of these roles if the city you want to work from actually has vacancies at the moment. An expression of interest doesn’t necessarily mean that Virgin Australia will definitely have positions available in all of these locations but you should treat your application with the same seriousness as you would a normal application.
To be eligible for this opportunity you’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18-years old
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Able to reach at least 180cm (on flat feet) but no taller than 187cm
- Be a confident swimmer
You’ll also need to live within a 2-hour commute of your chosen base airport and already hold certificates in First Aid, CPR and responsible service of alcohol.
Virgin Australia is particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have Mandarin or Cantonese language skills.
It goes without saying that the airline is looking for candidates who take safety seriously but who also have exceptional customer service skills and go out of their way to make a memorable in-flight experience and exceed guest expectations. You’ll also need to prove you have excellent communication skills, are able to work effectively as a team player and that you can adapt to change easily.
Virgin Australia cabin crew recently won the award for World’s Best Cabin Crew in the airlineratings.com awards so no pressure!
Assessment days will likely be announced soon after the application closing date so if this sounds like the opportunity for you be sure to submit your application in plenty of time. Applications must be submitted via the Virgin Australia recruitment website here.
There are additional opportunities available at Tigerair in Sydney and Melbourne. Further details can be found here.
