All too often we talk about a cabin crew career being a full-time, year-round profession but that kind of commitment obviously doesn’t suit everyone – So how about working as cabin crew for just six months a year? That’s exactly what you can do with one of Britain’s biggest charter airlines, TUI Airways and they’re currently looking for new recruits for the 2019 Summer season.
The best bit about this opportunity is that TUI Airways operates from a number of regional UK airports so if you want to manage the fun of being cabin crew alongside other commitments, this might be exactly what you’re looking for. Vacancies currently exist at 11 airports around the country:
Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Dublin, Glasgow, Luton, Norwich, and Stansted.
If you’re from the UK then you’ve probably at least heard of TUI Airways or at least its previous name of Thomson Airways. The airline is part of the massive European holiday brand which shares the same name. The British airline has over 64 aircraft, flying to around 70 destinations in 30 countries. It was even the first British airline to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In order to be eligible for this opportunity, you’ll already need to have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom or the European Union and be fluent in both spoken and written English. You’ll also need to be at least 18-years old with a clean criminal record to pass strict aviation security checks. Other requirements include:
- Able to reach 6’2″ without shoes (in order to reach emergency equipment)
- Fit, healthy and able to pass a ‘aeromedical’ exam
- A confident swimmer – able to swim 25 metres unaided
- Willing to cover any visible tattoo’s and remove body piercings while on duty
- Live within a 90-minute commute of your nominated base
TUI Airways are looking for confident team players who can bring “fun, energy and customer focus to the role.” Like most cabin crew roles, you’ll be working long hours with early starts, late finishes and plenty of weekends spent on duty as well. Be sure to prove you are “confident, resilient and comfortable coping with the unexpected” in your application.
Other skills you need to prove in your application, include:
- A passion for delivering excellent customer service
- Exceptional communication skills
- Planning and organising skills
- Reliable, resilient and confident
- A strong attention to detail
- Able to learn and develop
As a charter airline, TUI Airways also makes a significant chunk of ancillary revenues from onboard sales – you’ll need to be confident in meetings sales targets and you should highlight this in your application with any previous sales experience you possess.
If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you then you can apply via the official recruitment website for TUI Airways which can be found here. Your initial application will be shortlisted and you’ll then be invited to attend an Assessment Day. Successful candidates will be held in a Holding Pool for training courses before the busy Summer season gets underway next year.
Bottom Line
Not everyone can commit to a full-time cabin crew career or move to an area near a major airport. TUI Airways offers a fantastic route into the cabin crew profession, allowing crew members to experience the role on a shorter term contract within a very family orientated and holiday spirit environment.
The fact that TUI Airways operates from so many regional airports is also a big bonus and as the vast majority of flights don’t have layovers, cabin crew at the airline can return home at the end of every flight.
