Here’s some pretty big recruitment news which has just dropped in the last 24-hours – American Airlines, which is by some measures the world’s largest passenger airline, has just reopened its recruitment process for trainee flight attendants to join its 25,500+ strong team. Positions are available at a number of bases across the United States.
Having started life as a cargo airline carrying mail on behalf of the U.S. Postal Service between St. Louis and Chicago in 1926, the American has grown into the behemoth that it is today, with a worldwide route network that stretches to almost every corner of the globe. At present, the airline’s mainline fleet consists of a staggering 954 aircraft with 73 new aircraft set to be delivered next year.
Positions are available at American’s hub in Dallas Fort Worth as well as the following location across the United States: Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadephia, Raleigh, San Francisco, St. Louis and, Washington.
American says it’s looking for “service professionals of the highest calibre” who have the drive and ambition to provide outstanding service. Previous experience in a high-end customer service role will be desirable but isn’t necessarily essential. However, you’ll definitely want to prove you have the skills to confidently handle the following tasks:
- Work both independently and as a team
- Deliver the onboard service to an excellent standard
- Take responsibility for the safety and security of passengers
- Provide leadership and respond appropriately to different situations
As well as already having the right to live and work in the United States and holding a passport that allows you the right to unrestricted travel around the world, you’ll also need to meet these following minimum criteria:
- At least 20 years of age
- Completed High School education or GED equivalent
- Able to pass strict security background checks
- Fit and healthy with the ability to swim unaided
- Able to fit in a cabin crew jumpseat harness without an extension seatbelt
Ideally, American is looking for candidates with at least two years of customer service experience or a college education – but this isn’t absolutely necessary. Instead, candidates can highlight the skills, experience and aptitude they possess in their resume to stand out from the crowd.
There are also a number of dual-language roles available which attract higher pay. Currently, there are vacancies for candidates who are fluent in both English and one of the following languages: Hungarian, Croatian, Dutch, Czech, and Greek.
American is accepting application via its official recruitment website which can be found here. Successful candidates will be expected to undertake around seven weeks of initial training which are undertaken at the company’s hub in Dallas Forth Worth.
The initial training does not normally attract a salary but otherwise, flight attendants at the airline receive a generous remuneration and benefits package.
