A fantastic opportunity has opened up to join Oman Air’s growing team of cabin crew as the national airline embarks on an ambitious expansion programme. Unfortunately, however, while Oman Air is accepting applications from all nationalities, the position is only open to female candidates.
The small Sultanate of Oman may only be a couple of hundred kilometres away from its much more famous neighbour, the UAE but its capital, Muscat couldn’t feel further away from the brash glitz and glamour of cities like Dubai. Surrounded by rugged mountains, Muscat is a quieter, simpler and a deliberately less developed city than its Gulf counterparts.
In the last few years, however, Oman has been positioning itself as a major tourism hotspot – both for luxury retreats and outdoor adventures. Muscat, itself focuses on its history and new buildings are designed in a traditional style to conform with an order from the Sultan.
A little about Oman
The country generally gets very positive reviews from visitors and expats – who often remark how friendly they find Omani’s and how safe they felt during their time in Oman. That being said, Oman is still a conservative Muslim state and some ex-pat residents might find some differences from their own country disconcerting.
For example, while Oman is peaceful and generally very safe, protest and dissent are strictly prohibited. There are harsh punishments for things that might be perfectly lawful in your own country and concerns still remain about the treatment of women.
Even things like Skype, Facetime and Whatsapp video calls are still banned and the internet is heavily censored.
About Oman Air
Oman Air is a much smaller operation that rivals like Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways. As part of a turnaround programme to reverse the airline’s fortunes, Oman Air has started to focus on inbound tourism, although connecting the Indian and Filipino diaspora is still an important part of the airline’s business.
By 2022, Oman Air plans to operate 62 aircraft to around 60 destinations – In March, the airline took delivery of the second of 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft it has on order. There are also seven 787 Dreamliner aircraft in the fleet and the first of a further three will be delivered in June.
The airline has won multiple awards in the past and is widely praised as having one of the best Business Class products in the industry. A brand new airport recently opened in Muscat, which should significantly improve the passenger experience.
Minimum Requirements
So if this sounds like the airline for, you’ll need to be aware of some minimum requirements:
- Applications open to female candidates only
- Minimum age of 21-years old and maximum age of 31-years old
- Minimum height of 157cm
- Education:
- Two-year college diploma
- Or Secondary School Certificate
- Or Approved Cabin Crew Licence
- Fluent in both spoken and written English
- Medically fit
A knowledge of Arabic or any other international language would also be an advantage. In your application, you should prove you possess good communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to work well within a team and that you’re well organised.
The above requirements are for expat candidates. There are slightly different requirements for Omani’s.
