As unusual flight attendant job openings go, this is pretty high up there. The United States Air Force is looking for flight attendants for Janet Airlines – a highly classified airline which operates flights for military and contractor personnel from Las Vegas McCarran Airport to military bases throughout Nevada. And that includes Area 51, the place of sci-fi legend.
The airline doesn’t actually have an official name but people use its callsign when referring to the top-secret airline. According to a Wikipedia entry, rumour has it that Janet is actually an acronym which stands for Just Another Non-Existent Terminal.
The new flight attendants will be hired by AECOM – a huge defence contractor – who are looking for people who can acquire U.S. government Top Secret clearance. That’s the highest level of security clearance in the United States and will require candidates to hand over huge amounts of their personal details to recruiters.
Applicants will not only have to swear their allegiance to the United States but will also have to submit details about their sexual behaviour, financial situation, levels of alcohol consumption and what they get up to in their spare time. Of course, only U.S. citizens will be considered for the role and anyone with any kind of past criminal conduct won’t stand a chance.
Surprinsgly, AECOM isn’t necessarily looking for candidates with past experience as a flight attendant although it is desirable.
Janet Airlines operates a fleet of six Boeing 737’s which are stationed in Las Vegas. The aircraft are easily made out from their prominent red cheatline but lack of any other kind of livery.
After the October 2017 Las Vegas massacre at the Mandalay Bay, reports emerged that the shooter, Stephen Paddock may have been targeting fuel tanks belonging to Janet Airlines. The theory was given credence based on Paddock’s past as an employer for Lockheed Martin, another U.S. defence contractor.
