Singapore Airlines is recruiting new Cabin Crew – and here’s a little secret we want to share. You don’t necessarily have to be from Singapore to land the job. Recruitment events will be taking place in several countries over the coming months. Here are the details…
Formed in 1947, originally as Malayan Airways, the Singapore flag carrier is the world’s most awarded airline. In 2016, Singapore Airways (SIA) was voted the 3rd Best Airline in the World by industry heavyweights, Skytrax. And at the Business Traveller Awards 2016, the airline scooped the award for Best Cabin Staff.
In fact, Cabin Crew are integral to the success of SIA. New joiners undergo a rigorous initial training programme that includes Safety Equipment Procedures (SEP), First Aid and passenger handling techniques. The programme lasts for a whopping four months – one of the longest in the industry.
But successful candidates will also be handsomely rewarded. SIA advertises a monthly salary (inclusive of allowances) of between SGD$4,500 -SGD$5,000. That’s approximately $3219 USD – $3576 USD on an initial five-year contract. Additional contracts are arranged based on performance.
Minimum Requirements
Singapore Airlines keeps it Cabin Crew requirements fairly short but the airline is looking for candidates who are customer orientated and display initiative. You’ll also need to have experience working within a team. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum height of at least 1.58m for females and 1.65m for males.
Online applications for Singapore citizens closed on 14th April. Like many airlines, SIA is now asking applicants to complete a video interview before being shortlisted to an Assessment Day that is due to be held on 06th May 2017.
Open Day – 06th May 2017
However, if you missed the deadline for online application’s you might still have a chance. SIA will also be holding an Open Day on the 06th May that is open to all at the Pan Pacific Singapore. You’ll need to download and complete an application form from the SIA website and attend the venue between 8.30am to 2 pm with the following documents:
- Birth certificate
- All educational certificates
- Identity card
But wait – although the above event is only open to Singapore citizens, there are also opportunities open to international candidates.
An SIA spokesperson told us: “Singapore Airlines hires cabin crew from many different nationalities. Although most cabin crew are recruited from Singapore, Singapore Airlines also recruits from Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, India, Indonesia and Thailand.”
International Recruitment Events
In an emailed statement, SIA went on to say: “Our recruitment exercises are governed by the local rules and regulations and applicants are advised to apply for the cabin crew interviews in their respective home countries.”
That last line is really important. At the moment, Singapore Airlines has confirmed recruitment events in the following countries: Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan. Other events will be taking place in Thailand, Japan and India over the coming months.
If you don’t come from one of the countries listed above, it is highly unlikely that SIA will review your application.
This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity to join one of the best airlines in the world. Successful candidates will be based in Singapore and fly across the extensive SIA route network.
Competition is likely to be incredibly fierce – a fine-tuned resume / CV will be absolutely essential in getting through the shortlisting process. For more information about international recruitment events, follow this link to the SIA careers website: Singapore Airways Cabin Crew Careers
