In an Instagram post, the German flag carrier, Lufthansa has said that while it continues to hire new cabin crew, it will be unable to accept any further applications due to the “overwhelming numbers” the recruitment team has already received. The airline recommends that interested candidates should instead sign up for job alerts on Lufthansa’s official careers website.
Taking the time to thank everyone who has already sent in their application, the recruitment team has announced plans to run an online Q&A session with serving Lufthansa flight attendants, Lea and Masha on Friday 6th April. The chat will take place between 4-6pm CEST.
Applications are normally open to European passport holders who are fluent in both German and English. Lufthansa has major cabin crew bases in both Munich and Frankfurt – successful candidates would be expected to be willing to relocate. The minimum age to become a ‘flugbegleiter’ (flight attendant) in Germany is 18-years old and you must be between 1.60 metres and 1.95 metres tall.
While Lufthansa receives most of its cabin crew applications via the ‘Be Lufthansa’ careers portal, the airline has also experimented with special Open Day’s – or what the airline calls ‘Castings’.
There were 11 such casting events held in 2017 and two more were held in January. Last year, over 4,000 candidates attended a Casting event with nearly 1 in every 3 applicants being offered a job.
Candidates simply need a passport to take part in a Casting event – you don’t even need a resume. If you impress during a one-on-one interview, you take part in other elements of the Assessment Day. Successful candidates find out the very same day!
Earlier this year, the Lufthansa Group announced plans to hire around 8,000 new staff in 2018 – the majority of which will be flight attendants. Lufthansa will have 2,500 new hires for its Frankfurt and Munich hubs while many more will be joining other airlines in the Lufthansa Group.
At the moment, there are flight attendant positions open for the following airlines:
- Austrian – Vienna
- Germanwings – Cologne, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Vienna, Palma de Mallorca, Salzburg, and Munich
Some of the Germanwings positions are only available to experienced cabin crew who have previously been trained to operate on the Airbus A320 family of aircraft. More details are available on the Lufthansa Group careers website.
Lufthansa is also accepting applications from Korean nationals to join their team in Frankfurt. You must already hold a residence permit for a European country and be fluent in both English and Korean – Additional German language skills would be a definite advantage.
